Mesmer's shine in Hard Mode. Mobs cast and atacks 33 to 50% faster. So they kill themselves through mesmer's hexes 33 to 50% faster. Add to that their armor ignoring damage (against big armored mobs), and they are quite powerful indeed. Not as useful as a necro, but a good complementary.
In addition, the only fast cast mesmer that surpass elementalists are fast cast Air spikers. Their DPS is slightly greater than elementalists one. Fast cast nukers don't help in anything compared to fire eles.

Mesmer's are godly in hard mode. I take Norgu everywhere I can with me (if I know if I'm going to be fighting even just a few casters) if I can't get a real mesmer.

Asking if mesmers are good in the mesmer forums is like asking someones opinion about scifi at a scifi convention. Chances are the answers you get are going to be baised.

That said mesmers are awesome. ^_^

Well if u want backing up, See lets see, Mesmer can do amazing energy denail in PVE and with mind Wrack this can cause Huge damage to the foes who more often than not will have no Hex removal. Mesmers do AL ingoring damage, They are Masters at spell interuption, they have great energy maintainence skills, They can easily shutdown/Turn a foes actions against themselves. In Hard mode they become even more effective as there are more stronger foes and mesmers excel at taking down strong foes. Theres no denying they lack the AoE of a Curse Necro, but on single target there damage far exceeds that of a Curse Necro. Mesmers also eat bosses for breakfast even monk ones.

There's also the skill disabling abilities. (which is extremely useful sometimes)
I wouldn't say mesmers only interrupt and hex.
Mesmer AOE dps is crap, but they aren't really about damage, they aren't really about attacking what the group is attacking either.
In a typical PVE group they sit in the background and make sure the 2 lvl 28 eles have nothing to cast, denying the warrior adrenaline while doing armouring ignoring damage, e-denying the dervish and assassin, ect.
It's alot easier to kill a PVE mob when the mobs are neutered and the PUG doesn't rely on filling 2-3 slots with monks.

OOO, wouldnt i love to have all of that in a skillbar The only problem is, you have to focus one thing most of the time, like caster or melee shutdown...

Not really... well I don't think so Usually empathy does the melee killings for me, then I aim at a ele and take him down. Power spike ,how I love that spell its so quick to recharge and against title-vulnerable monsters it does good dmg+ arcane conundrum makes spells soo amazingly slow. I really lost my love for backfire... Oh I also think mesmers are great for quick resses...I always seem to be using rebirth on my pug groups :P. I think mesmers are great with hex removal and enchantment stripping anyone actually count how many they've got?

Didn't you get the update that gives you 20 skill slots?

Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless - like a mesmer. Now you give daggers to a mesmer, it becomes a ninja, you put a mesmer into the fire, it becomes the fire, you put it into a scary place, it becomes the devil himself. Now a mesmer can shutdown or it can punish. Be a mesmer, my friend.

I want them to give my mesmer a sparring sword like how it shows the mesmer pic on the website. I dunno but it just looks great. Gwen better be a freaken mesmer, it will give us some props . Plus I would use her all the time (and I hate looking at Norgu). I always somehow did picture a mesmer teleporting..or duplicating... but sometimes there skill animations could be abit...blah.

The mesmer class is not a bad choice for PvE at all. I would rate the mesmer a medium for use in PvE. There are places where they're not that useful and there are places where they shine. However, you'll breeze through PvE despite your class. Necromancers and Elementalists can do more damage in most areas but then the vast amount of areas aren't that hard that they require the perfect group. Having a mesmer around will never hinder a party, an elementalist may be the better choice in areas, but the party will be fine with that mesmer anyways, it's not a huge difference.

In hard mode the mesmer is much more useful. Due to the enemies faster attacks and spell casting, Empathy and Backfire are great. And a properly timed Deversion in some areas can be more useful thing anyone in your party could have done (but they won't notice). Carrying around a Shatter Hex with Arcane Echo and Mantra of Recovery in FoW, you will do crazy damage, and all armor ignoring.

In PvP, you will be incredibly useful. And if you do a good jump you will get people whispering insults and threats to you. It feels great!

All in all, PvE is alright for the mesmer (monster energy reg is questionable at best). There are better choices for PvE, but the advantage is not as big as people make it out to be. Any class is decent enough in PvE to get the job done so pick the one that interests you the most.
